As you might expect, An Officer and a Gentleman: The Musical sticks fairly close to its source material. But while the 1982 movie mostly sidelined the women's stories to focus on the men, the musical gives the female characters a chance to shine too. 

The highlight is a fired-up rendition of James Brown's ‘It's A Man's Man's Man's World’, where the workers in the paper mill vent their frustrations at the limited options available to women. 

Not all of the 80s tunes included in the production work so well, but this one makes its mark with powerful vocals from the female cast.
