Jordan Fein’s acclaimed production of Fiddler on the Roof is transferring to the Barbican for a limited summer season before heading off on a major tour of the UK and Ireland.

The production enjoyed an extended run at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre last summer, and was praised by Musicals’ reviewer Julia Rank for ‘Tom Scutt’s striking sculptural set design’ and for its casting of Adam Dannheisser as Teyve – a ‘splendidly hearty and mulish’ interpretation. Rank was also impressed by Julia Cheng’s choreography, which was ‘fresh and grounded, while retaining Jerome Robbins’s original, balance-defying “Bottle Dance”.’

Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick’s 1964 musical, by turns joyful and tragic, features one of the finest scores ever written, including songs such as ‘If I Were a Rich Man’, ‘Matchmaker’ and ‘Sunrise, Sunset’. This new production, featuring an 11-strong band, comes to London’s Barbican Theatre in May for eight weeks, before beginning its tour in July. Said producer Howard Panter: ‘I saw this incredible production last summer and was immediately blown away. It was completely sold out during its Regent’s Park run, so this new production will give many more people the chance to see Musical Theatre at its very best.’

Fiddler on the Roof opens at the Barbican on 24 May – for tickets (available from 23 January), visit fiddlerontheroofuk.com
