Jukebox musical adaptation of the Tim Burton classic revels in silliness and has plenty of heart

Tim Burton’s 1990 gothic fantasy Edward Scissorhands gets a genderqueer jukebox rock makeover in this enjoyably campy musical. Gregory Nabours’ orchestrations of classic pop-rock anthems bring twists to a number of beloved hits.

Jordan Kai Burnett elevates the central character’s trademark solemn innocence, while Emma Williams brings both a light comedic touch and her trademark emotional depth. A show that revels in silliness also brings with it a whole lot of heart.
Scissorhandz plays at Southwark Playhouse Elephant, London until 29 March 2025 – for more information and tickets, visit southwarkplayhouse.co.uk
