Sondheim’s Old Friends reunited

Missed out on tickets to Cameron Mackintosh’s one-night-only, all-star Sondheim gala last year? You’re in luck: Mackintosh has now announced a full 16-week run at the theatre dedicated to the late, great composer and lyricist, from 16 September 2023. Old Friends will once again feature Sondheim’s esteemed collaborator, Broadway legend and Musicals' cover star Bernadette Peters – now making her official West End debut.

She’ll be joined by an exciting new cast member, the great Lea Salonga (returning to the West End for the first time in 27 years), plus Janie Dee, Bonnie Langford, Jeremy Secomb, Christine Allado, Joanna Riding, Jac Yarrow and more. Matthew Bourne will resume directing duties, working side by side with Julia McKenzie.

Mackintosh commented: ‘Steve was always a Broadway Baby at heart, so I’m delighted that I have been able to put together one last great hurrah for my old friend, containing many of the greatest songs ever written for Musical Theatre, in one “great big Broadway show” – just as he wanted.’
